This is the chair I reupholstered for my Stage 2 AMUSF Upholstery Course and I received a distinction of 93% for it. The flutes are new to the chair and have been hand stitched.
It has been completedly taken apart and refurbished with new tack rails. I believe the show wood is American Black Walnut. It's been difficult to date this chair. I don't believe it's as old as the 1920/1930s which is what the shape would suggest. I belive it's newer, maybe made in the 50s as a replica because the doweling and glue used in the joints dates it to about that time. I believe it may have been made after the 50s and either made in the US and brought over or the wood was imported.
There were signs of woodworm so I treated with Cuprinol Woodworm Killer. In two years since treating the wood I have seen no further signs.
This chair conforms to UK Fire Safety regulations.
